A & A Produce Is All About Family
A & A Produce, Inc. is a wholesale produce company owned by Warren and Glenda Kemp and their sons Andy and Adam. This is the story of who we are and how we came to be in the wholesale produce business.
Warren is the son of T.R. (Junior) and Shirley Kemp. Their family moved to Myrtle Beach when Warren was three months old. Glenda is the daughter of Melvin & Genette Miller from the Pawley Swamp area southwest of Conway. She was born in Conway and grew up on a farm until the family moved to Myrtle Beach when she was 13. Warren & Glenda both attended Myrtle Beach High School and met when Glenda was a senior. Eight months later they were married on November 11, 1973. On their wedding day their combined personal possessions consisted of a three-year-old Volkswagen that was paid for, another car they owed more on than it was worth, a few wedding gifts, a stereo, a television, $100 in a bank account, a lot of love, hope, determination and a strong work ethic.
Their first son, Andy, was born on November 5, 1975. The family moved to Conway in 1978. Andy graduated from Conway High School in 1993. After a couple of semesters at Coastal Carolina, Andy transferred to Horry Georgetown Technical College to pursue his degree in culinary arts. Upon graduating from HGTC, Andy cooked at several establishments along the Grand Strand including, Hooters, Kingston Plantation, T-Bonz, and Liberty Steakhouse. After ten years of cooking along the Strand, he turned in his late nights, spatulas, and knives, for a tie, laptop, and an early morning job selling food for one the nation’s largest food distributors. After a huge merger, Andy left and the Kemp family opened A&A Produce.
Their second son, Adam, was born April 28, 1981 and attended and graduated from Conway High School as well. Adam jumped into the hospitality business at an early age selling frozen lemonade along Ocean Boulevard. He then progressed to serving ice cream at the old Waccamaw Pottery. Upon graduating from high school, Adam cooked for several years at one the leading resorts along the Beach. It didn’t take Adam long to decide the kitchen was not where he longed to be. He traded in his knives and spatulas, for a delivery truck and a CDL. He has delivered tons of products for various companies along the beach; he even rolled produce for the company the Kemps purchased, A.P.C., for a couple of years, before becoming one of the founders of A&A. Adam took a break off from the grind of the produce business and drove a tractor trailer cross-country for a year, before coming back home to help A&A become a full line distributor.
The Kemp family has deep family roots in Horry County. They are blessed to be surrounded by a fantastic network of friends and family. They believe in hard work, striving for unreachable perfection, have a spirit of servitude and giving to the community, and believe that Jesus Christ is Lord of all.
Family is the key element to our business. We embrace our cilents as our family and look forword to new additions.
